Year 10 Work Experience Summer 2020
After careful consideration, and being guided first and foremost by the safety of our students, the decision has been made to cancel work experience for Year 10 students this year. We appreciate that this will be disappointing news for many students and we are planning to integrate employability awareness and the understanding of the workplace into the Year 11 curriculum from September. Whilst this obviously can never replicate the experience of a real working environment, we hope that it will go some way towards bridging this important gap.
Work Experience Options 2020
Work experience is a vital part of education. It allows students to spend time outside the classroom, getting a taste of the workplace and finding out what skills are important in getting a job.
We encourage all Year 10 students to do a week’s work experience in July. This year there are 3 options available to students:
Option 1: External Work Experience 6 – 10th July 2020
You will spend the week working with a local employer, gaining work based skills. You will apply for your work experience yourself, with some support from staff at school.
Your employer must have employer’s liability insurance and will be required to meet certain criteria.
**If you are going to Mallorca or Ecuador, your work experience will be the Monday 29th June – Friday 3rd July **
Option 2: Academy Leadership Opportunity
You will spend the week at Isca, doing a mixture of life skills and work based activities. You will also be helping out with some enrichment week activities.
You will be invited to join this pathway. Spaces are strictly limited. You will still be required to write letters and emails requesting work experience.
Option 3: CCF Summer Camp
You will spend the week at the CCF Summer camp learning military, organisation and teamwork skills.
Spaces for summer camp are strictly limited and are not guaranteed. Your ‘working week’ will be slightly longer, Sunday-Friday.
Previous students have secured themselves placements with a range of employers. These include: Tesco, Ben Bradshaw (MP), Devon and Cornwall Police, Southernhay Dental Practice, The Rougemont Hotel, Oxfam, and Exeter City Football Club.
Finding a work experience placement is the responsibility of the student, although help is available in school if you need it. There is a strict timetable for organising the placement which involves the school, the employer and other outside agencies. Mrs Adams will be available in school to offer guidance on finding appropriate placements.
