The Art of The Stonemasons – year 9 GCSE Art trip

This week our year 9 GCSE Art scholars took part in an exciting Art trip to Exeter Cathedral. Led by the Stonemasons, they had the opportunity to design and carve their own ‘Masons Mark’, produce a range of experimental drawings as well as taking numerous photos around the Cathedral. We also had the opportunity to learn a bit about the history of the stonemason’s work and all the amazing discoveries that have been found during restoration projects (if you haven’t been – go – it is an incredible place!)
We are SO proud of the enthusiasm and creativity our Art scholars have shown and are excited to see how they use this experience to inspire their individually artistic minds . A particular shout-out to Hannah and Stan who’s confidence and hands-on approach with the carving, really impressed the stonemasons. Miss Sastre, Mrs Hughes and Mr Verney would like to thank all Art scholars involved for a brilliant experience and for being a credit to our Isca community.

Well done Isca for being one of the top performing schools in Sparx last term.

Sports News

Year 7 v Teignmouth School, Rugby
The year 7’s had their first rugby game of the season with many of them playing in their first ever rugby game. We hosted Teignmouth school on Monday afternoon in what was a fantastic game of rugby. It was great to see some many year 7’s enjoying a new sport and many have since said they would like to sign up to local clubs. Teignmouth won the game 25-20. Star performances from Tyler, Brayden, Archie, Will and Kash. Well done to all involved.

Year 9/10  v West Exe Netball
We had a wonderful year 9 and 10 Netball match against West Exe on Thursday 19th Jan. 7 year 10s and 18 year 9s turned out to challenge Westexe.  The score wasn’t in our favour but watching the progress of the year 9s growing in confidence to fight for the ball was wonderful to see.
The year 10s made for an exciting match the outfield play not reflecting the score and despite some excellent shooting from Bessie and Rosie they could match the shooting from the West Exe GA.
Netball club is on Thursdays afterschool if you would like a chance to play for the school or complete your physical DofE section.
