SEND Team News

We are pleased to welcome this term to Isca, Karen Moore, our new Assistant Headteacher SENDCO and Michelle Tedder as SEND Administrator.

The SEND team can continue to be contacted via the SEND email address: senco@iscaexeter.co.uk.

Within the next weeks, families of scholars on the SEND register will receive our first SEND communication letter, so please look out for this.

SEND Strategy

We’ve been collaborating with other schools within the Ted Wragg Trust to embed a Trust wide SEND strategy that supports every child to succeed. We are already seeing a positive impact on speech and language outcomes for children within our school community and we are continuing to share, and learn from approaches in other schools through our SENDCo Network. The recent appointment of two speech and language therapists as part of our strategy means students within our family of schools are able to access these services sooner than elsewhere within our region. If you’d like to find out more about our SEND Strategy and how we are embedding this at Isca Academy, please contact our new SENDCo, Karen Moore: senco@iscaexeter.co.uk

What’s happening in… Religious Education

On Thursday 20th April as part of the year 8 Religious Education curriculum, the scholars had Mr Singh, a Sikh who is part of the Isca community, take a session on Sikhism. This was a great way to introduce the scholars to the Sikh religion, which they will be studying for cycle 3. They learnt about key beliefs and teachings in the religion. The session was really impactful and the scholars were very well behaved. Well done Year 8!

Mock Exam Results

We were delighted to celebrate the success of our year 11 scholars this afternoon when they received their results of their most recent mock exams.  They worked incredibly hard over the course of a gruelling mock season and this was a lovely opportunity for year 11 and their teachers to recognise that hard work.  The assembly was followed by staff handing out results envelopes, mirroring the experience year 11 will have in the summer. Whether scholars were thrilled or slightly disappointed with their results we are sure that the event will motivate the scholars to have real ambition for themselves in the final fifteen school days before the real exams start.

Our CCF’s Annual General Inspection

It was an absolute honour and privilege to attend and speak at our CCF’s AGI this year. All scholars involved were inspirational ambassadors for the school and demonstrated their clear resilience and commitment to CCF. Mr Tyldesley has done an amazing job and I know that our scholars are really appreciative of his hard work.

What’s on next week…

28th – 30th April 2023: Ten Tors – the actual event! Good luck to all participants!
