Reader Leader Board with prizes each term for the classes that are making the most progress!

This week’s winners are…

Mrs Freestone’s class – Year 7 – 100%!
Miss Lolin’s class – Year 8 – also 100%!

Isca Sparx Reader’s are 2nd on the world leader board for submissions!

What’s happening in…

… PSHE: Years 8 and 10 have been exploring the theme of misogyny in a special lesson reacting to a growing internet community. Some excellent discussions were had about how our young people feel towards this.

… French & Spanish: Year 11 have been completing their French and Spanish speaking mocks. They have taken these seriously, completed some excellent revision and made more effective use of their preparation time before the exam than they did in the mocks in year 10. It is really gratifying to know that our advice is being taken on board. We have a cohort of linguists who are increasing in confidence and are making us very proud.

Climate Club

On Tuesday 21st students from Isca Climate Club carried out a litter pick in the Woodland Area where our school badgers live, getting this space clean and safe before the cubs emerge later in spring.

We will use these images to remind students about taking responsibility for maintaining their school environment, and putting their rubbish in the bin. This will be alongside messages about recycling and reducing energy use.

We have also made a short video about the badgers and other animals that live on site based on clips recorded from a wildlife camera.

Sports shoutout!

Prior to half term, the Year 10 football team travelled to Crediton to play Queen Elizabeth’s School in the Ted Wragg Trust football cup. The team went down one nil early in the first half but soon replied with a goal of their own. From that moment on Isca were in control and through goals from Thomas and Ned (twice) and Tyler, Isca won the game 4-1!

Our young authors

Before Christmas the English Department ran a creative writing competition with an organisation called Young Writers. Students had to write stories that were inspired by numbers and an amazing 59 scholars have been selected for publication. All our winners will receive a certificate, bookmark and letter which explains how they can get a copy of their book. Congratulations to our scholars who are now published authors! Well done, we are so proud of you all!

What’s on next week?

World Book Day – we are celebrating this on Friday 3rd March!

Can you bake a brilliant cake to celebrate reading? Can you whip up an edible creation in the style of your favourite book or character?
Bring in your cakes to reception on Friday 3rd March 2023.
Judging will take place that day during break 1 in the Movement Space!

Have a lovely weekend.
