Welcome to this week’s edition of the Headteacher’s Blog where we round up all the events and celebrations that have been happening in the school this past week.
We truly believe that Isca students are the greatest and look forward to sharing all their amazing achievements with our community each week.

Some Lovely Feedback from Our Local Community
We received the following email this week. It is a real pleasure to hear from people outside of school that our students are showing the respect and good manners that we would expect of them. Well done to this group of students.
“I would like to pay a compliment to some of your students. I was cycling to work yesterday and by the entrance of Ludwell Valley Park and Topsham Road about 15 Isca male cyclist came against me. I stopped on my bike to let them pass on a narrow bit of footpath. They all said thank you. Please tell them how they are a credit to themselves and the school.”
Missy Rewards for Hard-Working Students
Missy has been hard at work this week. She is pictured here with two Year 7 students who have been working especially hard and got to celebrate by spending some time with Missy.
Golden Ticket Winner
Our Golden Ticket winner this week is Scarlett in 9IH. Every student with a weekly 100% attendance is entered into a draw, and the winning name on a Monday receives a £20 Just Eat voucher to spend on a takeaway treat with their family.
The SPARX Reader Leader Boards
Every week Year 7 and 8 students have the chance to achieve a place on the Sparx Reader Leader board. Each English class competes with the other classes in the year group for the most Sparx Reader submissions each week. There are prizes each term for the classes that are making the most progress!
This week it is 7xEn2 – Mrs Freestone and Mrs Kara’s class, and 8xEn2 – Miss Nielson and Miss Lolin’s class, that are in pole position on the table. But this can all change very quickly, so keep up the excellent Sparx Reader work!
Art – Celebrating Open Studio Attendance by the Visual Arts Team
We are really impressed to see so many of our GCSE Art and Photography students taking the opportunity to attend Open Art Studios. The following students have all attended sessions this week:
- Year 9 Art: Courtney

Lots of students are attending multiple sessions each week. This week we would like to give a special shout out to Eliza Scorer who has begun attending not 1, but 2 after school Open Art Studios each week – as well as supporting her friend during lunch to help out with a photoshoot. This is not only excelle
nt determination, drive and resilience, but a level of kindness and consideration which is commendable. We are very proud of all our students.
Performing Arts – Theatre trip
On Wednesday this week, our performing arts team took 40 students to see a production of Shrek the musical at Exeter’s Northcott Theatre.
Many of this group will be performing in our own production of Shrek next term, so it was great for them to see the show and they came away very excited to get back to rehearsals!
Exeter Carnival
This weekend we are sure that many students will be attending the Exeter Carnival event in the city centre. We hope everyone has a really amazing time. Keep a look out for some of our Isca students who will be performing with the ‘Devon Dynamites’ majorettes: Elle-Mae, Ellie, Molly, Sophia, Lola and Phoebe
Sports News: Spotlight on Girls Sport!
Our U13 and U15 football teams had their first outing of the season in two seven-a-side tournaments at West Exe School.
Isca U13 girls football team
It was a solid defensive display for our Isca A team with plenty of draws in their opening tournament of the season. Kayleigh scored the only Isca goal of the evening which came from an Ella D assist on her Isca debut where she made a spectacular attacking run and well-timed pass into the path of Kayleigh who slotted home the ball with power and accuracy. Another special mention for Callie and Bella in Year 7 who impressed on their Isca debut. The Isca B team also worked tirelessly all night with some close draws and 1-0 defeats, however they continued to show team spirit right up to the final minute. Best wishes to Sofia who was unable to play due to an ankle injury, we hope to welcome you back into the team soon.
Isca A team: Kayleigh ©, Callie, Lexie, Madison, Ella, Sofia & Hollie.
Isca B team: Keira © Brooke, Izzy, Bella, Emi & Sasha.
Isca U15 girls football team
The U15 team came away from their tournament with one win (St Peters B), one draw (West Ex) and two defeats to QE and St Peters A. Special mention to Julia who scored a close-range volley from a Daisy free kick. Freya, Sophie and Isabella also took on the role of goalkeeper to support the team and also made some fantastic saves along the way. The team were unfortunately missing quite a few players to illness and a Devon match, we hope to welcome Sophie, Lily and Hollie back into the side in future fixtures. Players of the tournament: Hayden was outstanding in defence and made so many last-ditch tackles to prevent the opposition from scoring. Daisy was also injured with a wrist problem but continued to press high and was all over the pitch from defence to attack to support her teammates.
U15 team: Hannah, Freya, Julia, Hayden, Isabella, Daisy, Sophie
Isca U15 Girls Netball Team
Year 8 played their first Netball match of the year this week and came away with a great win 10-3 against St James. A great start to the Season, well done girls!
