Welcome to this week’s edition of the Headteacher’s Blog where we round up all the events and celebrations that have been happening in the school since our return from the Christmas break.
We truly believe that Isca students are the greatest and look forward to sharing all their amazing achievements with our community each week.

Year 11 Mock Results Day
Well done to Year 11 on receiving their first set of mock results on Thursday 5th January, we are incredibly proud of you. The hard work begins now in the countdown to the actual exams which begin in 74 school days. Year 11 demonstrated exemplary behaviour during the mock fortnight and then experienced the results reveal when they opened their results yesterday.
We look forward to working closely with students and families to further support students’ progress in the lead up to the summer exam series. Please ensure you have booked your parents evening appointments for next week (Thursday 12th January).
Year 11 Art and Photography GCSE Exams Begin
All Year 11 artists and photographers have started their GCSE exam paper this week. Mrs Hughes and Miss Sastre couldn’t be happier about how well all students have received the assignment theme and are already investigating and collecting information and ideas to respond to this. Mrs Hughes and Miss Sastre are really excited to help students prepare for their 10 hours of sustained focus exam after the Easter holiday. Parents are invited to talk to students about their ideas and their progress to support them during this important time.
English Top Readers are 7yEn1
7yEn1 claimed the prize for best readers in the school for the autumn term. They not only won the Sparx Reader League but also the recognition of the number of book quizzes achieved using Accelerated Reader. They won a Caterpillar cake to share, sweets and a beautiful rainbow rosette to wear with pride. Ms Kara and Ms Freestone are very impressed with their amazing achievements this term and hope they can continue to lead the school as our leading readers.
Topsham Rugby Festival
32 Isca students invited to a Rugby festival held at Topsham Rugby Club in December.
The day involved a morning of fun drills led by Exeter Chiefs Coaches followed by an afternoon of intense games. Big well done to all involved.
Sports News
Year 7 v West Exe Football
Our Year 7’s played West Exe at home this Thursday. With it being early in the year we were excited to give more year 7’s opportunities to represent the Isca school teams. The boys played very well in periods but were unable to convert opportunities into goals. On this occasion West Exe took the win. Well done to all those who played and especially those who represented our school for the first time.
