Creative Story Writing in English

Year 8 students have been getting creative this week in English with writing their own mini sagas to enter in a competition that Young Writers are running. The theme is stories inspired by numbers and already we have had tales of broken clocks, unlucky numbers and strange hotel rooms. Winners will be published! Watch this space.

Merry Iscamas Riddles

There have been some festive goings on this week around the school with everyone getting into the spirit of Christmas.
On Thursday there was a competitive air to the day as regular riddles were released with the first classes to respond being showered with Christmas merit points and visits from Missy. How quick would you have been?

I’m only small and I’m normally found in the corner.
However, at this time of year I go all over the world! What am I?

Cadets on Exercise

19 members of the Cadet unit took part in a fieldcraft exercise on Woodberry Common this week. They coped well with the very challenging terrain, developed their individual skills and took on new leadership skills. This was a gruelling exercise on incredibly difficult terrain, and everyone did very well.

The SPARX Reader Leader Boards

Every week Year 7 and 8 students have the chance to achieve a place on the Sparx Reader Leader board. Each English class competes with the other classes in the year group for the most Sparx Reader submissions each week. There are prizes each term for the classes that are making the most progress!
This week it is 7yEn2 – Mrs Donovan’s class, and 8yEn2 – Miss Lolin’s class, that are in pole position on the table. 8yEn2 are still dominating the Year 8 groups with a 92% score – that’s a challenge to the rest of Year 8 to try and beat them next week!! Keep up the excellent Sparx Reader work!

Seneca Leader Boards

Meanwhile, across the whole of the Ted Wragg Trust schools, Isca is currently leading the Seneca student engagement boards with over 70,000 points – double that of West Exe who are in second place.
That’s an amazing achievement! Let’s keep the scores rising.

Shrek Making Behind the Scenes

A small group of super-creative Year 8 volunteers is meeting every Friday after school to make props for our school production SHREK- the Musical.
At the moment they are creating the dragon entirely out of recycled materials. Saving the planet, making art and having fun… they are wonderful!
If any other committed and hard-working Year 8 students, with good 3D and craft skills, want to join this group, please talk to Miss Sastre.
